Fighting Counterfeits: The Power of Collaboration for Lasting Change

Individual efforts can often lead to immediate results because decisions are made and action is taken without the need for consensus or coordination with others. Quick individual actions can often address immediate issues without necessarily solving the systemic problem.

Long-term success and enduring impact are more likely achieved through collective efforts and collaboration. This is the ethos that SATAGA is founded upon.

By working together, different stakeholders (such as brandholders, distributors and retailers) can pool their resources, share expertise, and implement comprehensive strategies to combat counterfeit goods effectively. This approach can include joint enforcement initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and pushing for more severe penalties against counterfeiters.

Sustainable progress against counterfeiting often requires coordinated efforts on a broader scale to improve enforcement, educate consumers, and develop innovative solutions to detect and prevent counterfeit products in the toy and games industry. Therefore, the emphasis on “going far” underscores the importance of collaboration and collective action in achieving lasting results in the fight against counterfeit goods.

Who is SATAGA?

SATAGA is a recently formed non-profit entity with the aim of combatting the sale of counterfeit toy and gaming products in South Africa.

South Africa has a huge issue when it comes to counterfeits, especially in the toy and games industry.

The problem with combatting it, however, is that it is expensive and a legally intensive process resulting in very little being done to counter this issue.

With the ethos, if you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far go together, SATAGA is the right partner for brandholders, retailers, distributors and any other interested party impacted by the sale of counterfeit goods within the toy and games industry in South Africa.
